Learn how gerontechnology eases the challenges of ageing and provides stronger support to seniors.

Gerontechnology contributes important insight that shapes how we view seniors and ageing. Through the learning points, we can improve the environments in which seniors spend their golden years. Join us as we discuss how we can improve the quality of care for seniors through policy-making, infrastructure, and technology, with Hong Kong and Singapore as case studies.

Dr Lam Ching-choi – Hong Kong’s government policies on the development of gerontechnology and how it can support healthy ageing to realise the ageing in place vision.

Mr Tan Kwang Cheak – Cases on how digitalisation can provide a better support to an ageing population and its impact on health outcomes of the overall population.

About the Speakers

Dr Lam Ching-choi is a non-official member of the Executive Council of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. He also serves as the Chairman of the Council for Sustainable Development to advise the government on related policies. He is also a Supervisory Board Member and the Nominating Committee Member of the Hong Kong Housing Society. He was the Chairman of the Elderly Commission from 2016 to July 2022.

Dr Lam is a specialist in paediatric and community medicine and is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Haven of Hope Christian Service. Under his leadership, Haven of Hope Christian Service was established as one of the pioneers in the provision of holistic care for seniors in Hong Kong.

Dr Lam was awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star in 2019. Apart from receiving Honorary Fellowship from Lingnan University in 2018, he was also presented the Ageing Asia Global Ageing Influencer Award (Special Recognitions) for his devotion to public services and his influence on policy-making for the global ageing trend.

Mr Tan Kwang Cheak is the Chief Executive Officer for the Agency for Integrated Care (AIC). His work experience spans more than two decades in the public, private, and non-profit sectors. He first spent more than a decade in the Singapore Administrative Service, serving the public sector in various appointments in the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Manpower, and JTC Corporation. His last appointment in the public sector was Director, Manpower in the Ministry of Defence. He later took on the role of Senior Director for Operations, Brand Extensions, Business Planning and Human Resources in McDonald’s Singapore, and subsequently Assistant Executive Director in the Singapore National Employers Federation. He was also the Director for Human Resources and Talent Development in MOH Holdings Pte Ltd, the holding company for the public healthcare clusters in Singapore, before he became the Chief Human Resources Officer at NTUC FairPrice Co-Operative Ltd in Singapore.

About the Moderator

Dr Mary Ann Tsao is the Chairwoman and Founding Director of the Tsao Foundation, a Singapore-based, but regionally-oriented non-profit operational foundation dedicated to aged care and ageing issues.

Dr Tsao is also the current Chairwoman of the Tsao Family Office, the family investment office of a group of companies that started in shipping and led to the formation of the IMC Group. The Tsao Family Office aspires to deploy all its assets for impact through how they invest as well as in philanthropical work. She is currently also the Vice Chair for the newly established Tsao Family Foundation.

Dr Tsao has worked with multi-lateral agencies, such as WHO’s Geneva office and UNESCAP, and served on various government committees as well as non-profit boards in Singapore and internationally. She was a former Board Director for Family Business Network (FBN) Asia and is currently a member of FBN Asia’s Ambassador Circle. For her work on ageing, Dr Tsao has been recognised by the Singapore government as a recipient of the Public Service Medal, Public Service Star, and Public Service Star (Bar). A US-trained paediatrician with a public health background, she has extensive experience working with disadvantaged communities.
