About this event
The Community Leadership Series aims to bring community leaders together for networking, sharing and learning opportunities. Each workshop focuses on a different challenge that communities experience.
Hosted by NVPC’s Community Matters and Lutheran Community Care Services, join us for the “Trust Issues in Communities” workshop happening on 4 October 2022 (Tuesday) from 7:30pm to 9:40pm. In this workshop, you will hear stories and learn strategies to build and rebuild trust into your respective communities.
This 2-hour workshop will cover key questions on:
- What is trust and how does it matter in your community?
- What builds trust? Is it earned or given?
- How can one rebuild trust after it is broken?
This session is useful for:
- Leaders within communities such as in an NPO, ground-up, company or other interest groups
- Individuals interested in understanding and building trust within communities

Dr Danny Tan | Founder & CEO, Odyssey Dance Theatre Ltd
Dr Danny Tan serves as the Founder & CEO of Odyssey Dance Theatre Ltd (ODT Ltd). ODT Ltd is an IPC charity that is envisioned to be a leading global dance and arts institution. It thrives with distinctive initiatives by its 6 divisions (ODT Dance, ODT Education, ODT Cares, ODT Arts Hub, ODT International & ODT Gives) and 3 strategic arms (Odyssey Dance Theatre, ODT Gem & ODT Services), impacting many people’s lives in diverse sectors.
Dr Danny Tan brings more than 30 years of experience in Singapore’s arts and culture, education and social service sectors. He believes that full disclosure is needed to earn trust in order to facilitate greater social impact. At this event, he will share about his experiences forming trust and the PARENT framework in corporate governance.
Swati Mathur | Managing Director, Common Purpose
Swati serves as the Managing Director at Common Purpose where she is responsible for the operations in the Asia Pacific region including South East Asia, India, Hong Kong and Australia. Prior to joining Common Purpose, Swati was Vice President and Leadership Development Lead for Edelweiss Financial Services.
Passionate about diversity and inclusion as well as leadership development, Swati is driven in creating leaders who are able to work across differences to navigate the complexities of their environment. Through the years, she has led organisations to realize their leadership aspirations. Human resilience is what drives Swati, with collaboration sitting at the core.
At this event, she will bring her years of HR experience to share the importance of reframing trust when it is broken, having internal dialogues with yourself and building credibility.
Andrew Ong | Co-founder, Break the Cycle
Andrew Ong serves as the co-founder of Break the Cycle. Break the Cycle is a ground up initiative that aims to empower ex-offenders and the Singapore community in their path to achieve positive life goals. They regularly host cycling meet-ups and events for people to come together with a common interest.
Andrew aims to foster trust in the community through proactiveness and communicating with intention. He believes that trust needs purpose, people and processes. At this event, he will share about his experiences building trust in interpersonal relationships at Break the Cycle to better serve ex-offenders.
