In this year’s Ethnic Minorities Health Symposium, we explore the health status of EMs and the opportunities they have in career choice.
Theme of the year:
Health Equity through upstream interventions and strategies – can a career path leading to the healthcare and social care sector be a solution?
We aim at…
- Raising awareness in considering upstream interventions than just handling risk behaviours or the illness itself
- Opening up more possibilities for EM youths in healthcare and social care related careers in the labour market
- Recognising the relationship between the lack of EM healthcare workers or the expertise in the system and poor health outcome of EM in Hong Kong
- Push forward changes in the current service systems targeting the EM community
- mandatory medical and legal interpretation in the respective context
- provision of interpretation services in social services
- facilitate women groups in using public leisure and recreational facilities
